Lock programingrefers to the process in which the user provides sets of instructions which the system uses to perform tasks. The main tasks in this case being locking and unlocking. Yale keypad lock programming involves setting master and user PIN codes, adding keycards, handing among others.

Different Yale keypad locks have slightly varying programming processes. Let’s look at how to go about programming the Yale Keyless Connected Smart Door Lock.

Master PIN Code Programming

The master PIN code should be set before any other programming is done. Assuming you are setting the master code for the first time, you will need to enter the lock’s factory default master code first.

  • Touch the keypad with the palm of your hand to activate the lock.
  • Enter the factory default master code and press the pound (#) key.
  • Press (1) button followed by the (#) key. This takes you to the lock’s menu and into option 1 ( master PIN code set up)
  • Enter a new 6 digit master PIN code.
  • Press the pound (#) key to complete the process.

User PIN Code Programming

This particular lock can hold up to 20 user codes.

  • Touch the keypad with the palm of your hand to activate the lock.
  • Enter the master code then press the (#) key.
  • Press (2) button followed by the (#) key. This takes you to the lock’s menu and into option 2 (user PIN code set up)
  • Press (1) button followed by the (#) key. This allows you to add or modify user PIN codes.
  • Enter the slot number for the code you would like to set. Your new user PIN will be assigned to this slot.
  • Enter the new user PIN code. It should be a 4-10 digit number.
  • Enter the (#) key to complete the process.

Registering a Key Card

Just like user codes, this lock can take up to 20 key cards. Each is assigned a specific slot.

  • Touch the keypad to activate the lock.
  • Enter the master code then press the (#) key.
  • Select (0) then press the (#) key. This puts you in the lock’s menu then into the ‘select key card’ menu.
  • Select (1) then press the (#) key. This allows you to add a key card.
  • Enter the slot number you would like the key card to be assigned to then press the (#) key.
  • Hold the keycard in front of the keypad for a few seconds to allow it read the magnetic strip. When reading is complete you will hear a loud beep.
  • Press the (#) key to complete the process.

Advanced Lock Settings – Handing the Lock

Handingis a word used to show how the door swings. To determine door handing, stand on the outside of the door and check where the hinges are.Doors with hinges on the left are left handed. Doors with hinges on the right are right handed. Handing determines if the latch bolt is directed to the left or right.

Handing a Yale Keypad Lock

Assuming the bolt is retracted, take the following steps.

  • Touch the keypad to activate the lock.
  • Enter the master PIN code followed by the (#) key. This puts you in menu mode.
  • Select ‘Advanced Lock Settings’ then press the (#) key.
  • Select ‘handing the lock’ followed by the (#) key.
  • Press the (#) key again to allow the bolt to hand.
  • The bolt automatically extends; now handed in the right direction.

Conclusion

Keypadlock programmingis your way of giving your lock basic instructions on when it can and cannot open. The master PIN code is the backbone of all Yale keypad lock programming. Once you have learned how to go about basic and advanced programming, be sure to keep your master PIN code safe. Although it is a fairly simple process, it is best to keep limit lock programming to one individual. If you are not sure about certain aspects of lock programming, it is safer to refer to the manual before you start the process, rather than get stuck halfway through with no idea how to go back.

FAQ

How do I get my Yale keypad lock to lock automatically when I leave?

Set the lock to automatically re-lock after 30 seconds. To enable auto re-lock:

Enter the master PIN code then select the auto-relock setting. Select option 1 to enable this setting.

I’m not sure I have the right user PIN code to unlock the office door. How many tries do I get?

The lock’s wrong code entry limit is 5. If you enter a wrong user PIN code 5 times, the lock automatically shuts itself down.

When I enter my user PIN code, the lock just flashes and beeps but doesn’t open. What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like the lock is in ‘lockout’ mode.  When it is in this mode and a user enters their user PIN code, the lock flashes 8 times then beeps 3 times. Lockout mode can only be enabled and disabled using the master PIN code.

I have heard that burglars are literally removing locks before breaking in.  How hard is it to remove a Yale keypad lock?

An audible alarm sounds when someone tries to remove the exterior part of the lock.
